One of the most recognizable menopause symptom is the "hot flash". A hot flash is best described as the "sudden onset of heat" feelings. It causes the face to flush and the body to sweat. It is kind of like somebody temporarily turning up the temperature of your body way too high. Some women say that it feels the same way they feel when they leave an air conditioned room and go out into a hot and sunny day, only it is more intense. Hot flashes can happen any time during the night or the day. When a hot flash occurs during the night, it is usually called a "night sweat."

For a woman wanting to have another child, menopause can be quite traumatic because of the similarity in symptoms between pregnancy and menopause. Fatigue is among the signs of menopause that also occur during pregnancy. "Crashing" fatigue is a common symptom of menopause. I am not talking about just feeling a little tired after a long day at work, i'm talking about major fatigue. Getting up in the morning becomes a nearly impossible task. Taking several naps throughout the day might become common practice for a premenopausal woman. Women who experience intense fatigue are often diagnosed as menopausal or premenopausal.

Increased levels of itchiness is a symptom of menopause that many women ignore because they don't know what it is. Extra itchy and crawling skin is something that many women going through "the change of life" report experiencing. This is a different feeling than you get with dry skin.

Some women say that it often feels like they have ants crawling around under their skin. This can be very disturbing for some women who aren't sure what it is that they are feeling. If you feel itchier than usual and constantly want to scratch, call your doctor. It might be nothing more than a simple skin condition. It could also be a sign of impending menopause (or actual menopause).

Many people liken menopause to puberty. The body is experiencing a major change that women cannot control. Many women, however, report that menopause is worse than puberty because the symptoms are more varied and severe.
